This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to join our Information Law team. The role will be based in the Cambridge office, however may require occasional travel to any of our other locations or off site as client demands require.

The Information Law Team is a cross sector team providing Data Protection and Freedom of Information Law advice in the context of sometimes conflicting laws in the Education, Charity and Business Sector, with a focus on our education practice. We act for over 1000 schools and much of the work has some overlap with education issues.

There is a complete spectrum of Information Law work. Areas where the candidate is likely to work include:-

The Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act. General GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 Subject Access requests Advising on data protection policies Data Breach Management and reporting Compliance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations in particular in relation to fundraising Freedom of Information requests Handling complaints to the Information Commissioners Office Applying data protection principles to the work of an organisation. Business Development and Marketing; assist in the preparation of articles and updates for clients, attend client events, including but not limited to marketing events, briefings, presentations and catch ups. Assist with the information law elements of tender documents Develop and maintain value-add materials for key clients. Requirements

The successful candidate will have at least 2 year’s PQE and have experience within a well-regarded City, regional practice or in-house legal team. Candidates with education or charity law experience will be at an advantage. Candidates should be prepared to engage in a very technical and intellectually demanding area of law but be able to give very common sense practical advice. The role is unlikely to suit a commercial lawyer with some data protection expertise. Drafting of commercial agreements will not be part of this role. The candidate should however be familiar with writing long advice notes, particularly on complex subjects. Candidates must be technically excellent but equally importantly demonstrate good interpersonal skills and in particular be a confident presenter. They will be a team player with a strong client focused approach and excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as a passion for information law.
