Salary: J/K £32,029 - £39,780 per annum (depending on role and experience)

Hi, I’m Kate Dexter, Head of Social Work for the Breckland locality. I have spent over half my career at Norfolk County Council as well as working in other counties across the country in all areas of Children’s Services. Norfolk County Council is a special place to work, everyone works together to achieve the very best. I am proud of the team’s commitment to improving the outcomes for children. The teams across Breckland are very friendly and the managers really support their teams to get the best out of them, we currently have family assessment and safeguarding teams, Looked After Children’s teams, Leaving Care and Children with disabilities teams. We’re investing in Children’s Services over the next three years which will offer development opportunities as we transform services.

Right now, I’m looking for experienced and dedicated Social Workers to work in our Family Assessment and Safeguarding Teams, based at Dereham and Thetford. I hope that you will have experience working in Assessment or Long-Term Safeguarding teams. This is an exciting time to work in Norfolk and you will be part of developing the working practices within the teams as well as working closely with partner agencies to develop a robust, positive offer to those children and young people to keep families together, work in a preventative way to reduce risk and enable families to meet their children’s needs in a safe way. The FAS Teams work with children and families from point of referral to complete a social work assessment through to closure, step down to Early Help or until their long-term care plan is determined for those children we are unable to support at home.  We offer a friendly and supportive environment and look forward to welcoming dedicated and experienced social work professionals.

Norfolk is a fantastic place to live and work.  We have two main bases in the Breckland area – Dereham and Thetford which both offer good parking, close to the town centres and are collocated with health and early help.  The posts are based in Dereham and Thetford but there will be opportunity to work in either office depending on those children allocated to you.  We offer a relocation package to those moving to Norfolk from another part of the country.

Breckland is a particularly beautiful part of Norfolk. Predominately rural but with not too much travelling across the area for our teams. The area has easy access to the A11 and the A47 and within easy reach of the city of Norwich. Thetford is home to the beautiful Thetford Forest with an array of activities on offer, from cycling to open air concerts. Dereham is a traditional market town with numerous restaurants and shops.
