About the role

We are looking to recruit an experienced Datacentre Systems Administrator to work within the Information Services (IS) department here at Northumbrian Water. Reporting to the Technical Readiness Manager, you will be responsible for ensure the effective day-to-day management of the company's Datacentre storage and servers.

This means you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of the Storage Area Network (SAN) and AIX/Linux/Solaris servers. You’ll also be responsible for the systems administration of hardware and software in the production and development environments. In addition, you will set up and monitor backups and jobs.

As part of this role you will provide technical advice as part of multi-disciplinary project teams on capital investment projects.

In the event of out of hour’s incidents, you will provide support on a standby basis consistently demonstrating a strong customer focus. Overall you will contribute to improving, enhancing and streamlining Datacentre systems.

About you

You’ll be proficient in the maintenance of high availability AIX/Linux/Solaris servers in support of 24x7 services including installation/patching. Strong experience in the diagnosis and resolution of problems relating to AIX/Linux/Solaris servers and storage availability is important for this role too.

Proven experience in the establishment and monitoring of backup and job scheduling in Cron and 3rd party tools such as COS Batch and Automic is key. In addition you will be proficient in the administration of enterprise level scheduling systems relating to regular system activities such as Backups, FTP transmission, Reports, Monitoring, Alerting etc.

You’ll be experienced in monitoring and maintaining quality assurance by checking the consistency, continuity and coherence of supported services.

You’ll have an advanced understanding of AIX, Linux, Solaris gained through running critical systems and experience of Unix Scripting.
