New Deal

Jobcentre Plus offers a number of services and programmes to help unemployed people, particularly people who have been unemployed for a long time, people with disabilities and others who may need extra help in finding work.
New Deal is a government programme that aims to give unemployed people the help and support they need to get into work.

Everyone on New Deal gets a personal adviser who is their point of contact throughout the programme. The personal adviser takes the time to understand you - your experiences, interests and goals - so a plan can be prepared to get you into a suitable job.
A work trial gives you the opportunity to try out in an actual job vacancy with an employer. It will give you the chance to show an employer that you are the right person to fill a job. You will also continue to receive benefits and you could be paid travel and meal expenses too.
Employment on Trial gives you the confidence to start a new job, even if you are not sure if it will work out. This is because you will not jeopardise your benefit if you have to leave the job, as long as you have given it a fair try.
In some areas of the country, if you get Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Income Support on health grounds, Pathways to Work could help you return to work. You will get tailored support from a personal adviser, access to job support and NHS rehabilitation and you may also be entitled to Return to Work Credit.

If you would like to volunteer to participate in Pathways to Work, you must check with the local Jobcentre Plus office in your area.
